Eretnid Rule and the Names Mentioned
Eretna was the founder of the principality centered on Sivas and Kayseri. Under his son Alâeddin Ali Bey state authority could not be established, and among the Eretnid emirs Hacı Şadgeldi in Amasya, Mutahharten in Erzincan, Tâceddin in Niksar, Hacı İbrâhim in Sivas and Şeyh Necib in Tokat acted independently. Eretna's son, the ruler Mehmed Bey, fought in 1358 against "Hoca Ali Şah", whose great help he had enjoyed, and removed him. This "Ali Şah" coincides in year with the Alâeddîn Ali Şah whom Hüsameddin counts among "the notables of 760", but there is no record that they were the same person; this is our guess.
Another clue: Hacı Şadgeldi's father is called Nûreddîn Kutlu Şah, and Şadgeldi is also known by the epithets "Kutlu Beyzâde" and "Çelebi". This resembles the names "Kutlubeyzâde" and "Emîr Şâh Çelebi" in the entry's title; but since Hüsameddin gives this person as "Alâeddîn Ali Şah", it cannot be said that he is the same as Şadgeldi. As for Alâeddin Ali Bey, who seized the city in Amasya in 1361, he is the son of Halfetzâde Şücâeddin Süleyman and is not mentioned as a son of Kutlu Bey.
No definite information was found in other sources on Alâeddîn Ali Şah's identity, his relation to Eretna, or his link with Kutlu Bey. Which ruler of the Eretnid dynasty the phrase "Sultan Eretna Han" in the text means is also not clear from this entry.
