The Seyyid Ahmed-i Kebir of Lâdik

Hüsameddin introduces Eşca' Bey's father as "the man of spiritual state Seyyid Ahmed-i Kebîr er-Rifâî," buried in Lâdik, and says that his biography appears earlier in the book. According to the description of the Ladik District Governorate, the Tomb of Seyit Ahmet-i Kebir is a structure of unknown date, square in plan, built of cut stone and brick; it contains seven sarcophagi and its architecture bears the features of the principalities period. According to the same record, Seyyid Ahmed-i Kebir was one of the Seljuk-period commanders; when he fell as a martyr in a battle he fought at Lâdik, he was buried here at his own request. The tomb is today a place often visited by those who have no son or no children at all. There is a difference between the local account and Hüsameddin's information: one presents him as a Seljuk commander, the other as a seyyid of the Rifâî line. Both descriptions may be true of the same man; no document showing which is the essential one was found in the sources read.

The Rifâî Attribution

Ahmed er-Rifâî, from whom the Rifâiyya order takes its name, was a Husaynid seyyid born in 512 (1118) in the Batâih region of Iraq, who died in 578 (1182) and whose tomb is south of Baghdad near Wâsit. That this sheikh himself lies buried in Lâdik does not agree with these records. It may be thought that by "Ahmed-i Kebîr er-Rifâî" Hüsameddin meant a seyyid who bore the name of the order's founder and is claimed to be descended from him or attached to his order; this too is an inference, since the sources do not explain the lineage of the man at Lâdik or how the name was acquired.

The Emirate of Lâdik and Its Date

Hüsameddin writes that Eşca' Bey was emir of Lâdik in the time of Hacı Şadgeldi and died around 780 (1378-79). Şadgeldi's emirate included Amasya, Tokat and Canik; the suggestion that Lâdik lay geographically within this region, and that Eşca' Bey could therefore be thought of as a local emir dependent on Şadgeldi, is an inference and is not documented. Under Ottoman rule Lâdik was, at the beginning of the sixteenth century, one of the districts making up the sanjak of Amasya; the others were the central district of Amasya and Merzifon. No information could be found in the sources about "Selâmiş Bay," named as Eşca' Bey's successor, or about the settlements of Taşâbâd and Hakâla.

The Eşca' Sons and the Hacı Kasım Sons

The entry is largely the family tree of a seyyid family spread over several generations. Hüsameddin notes that some of Eşca' Bey's descendants are among the seyyids of Amasya, and he names the "Hacı Kasım Sons" as a long-established family in Amasya. No other information was found about these families in the sources.
