The Kaza of Çorum

Çorum, Eyyûb Efendi's last post, was at this time the centre of a sanjak attached to the province of Rum. In 1521 the sanjak consisted of five kazas: Çorumlu, İskilip, Osmancık, Demirli Karahisarı and Katar; toward the middle of the 17th century the number of kazas rose. Çorum was considerably affected by the Celali revolts that swept Anatolia at the beginning of the 17th century; 1038 [1628-29], the date of his dismissal and retirement, falls within this period. Hüsameddin does not state the reason for the dismissal, and any connection of Eyyûb Efendi with these events is not mentioned in the sources we read. No information was found in other sources on his father, the Amasya judge Mehmed Efendi, or on Eyyûb Efendi himself.
