In Şevval 1087 [1676] he became Beylerbeyi of Kars, and then governor of Şehrizor. In 1095 [1683-84] he was dismissed, and afterwards held the sanjaks of Karahisâr-ı Şarkî and Canik, among others. The Hacı Paşazâdes
Hüsameddin mentions this Merzifon family in several places in his book. According to the entry Eyyûb Bey-Süheyloğlu, Eyyûb Bey, son of Süheyl Bey who built the Süheyliye Madrasa in Merzifon, fell as a martyr at the Battle of Esztergom in 1003 [1594-95], leaving his son Abdullah Pasha and his brother Yahyâ Pasha; the descendants of Yahyâ Pasha are called "Hacı Paşazâdes". Another entry says that the Hacı Paşazâdes of Merzifon descend from the famous beylerbeyi Hacı Yahyâ Pasha, whose life is to be told under the letter "ye" of the book; that entry could not be found in the volume texts at hand. The Hacı Paşazâdes of Köprü are a different family; they descend from Bayram Pasha, known as "Hacı Bölükbaşı". The line of descent given in the entry (Hacı Yahyâ Pasha, Abdülbâkî Bey, Osman Bey, Eyyûb Pasha) shows this family tie: Hüsameddin presents him as the son of the grandson of Hacı Yahyâ Pasha.
Closeness to Kara Mustafa Pasha
Kara Mustafa Pasha was born in the village of Marınca in Merzifon (today Karamustafapaşa) and became grand vizier on 28 Şaban 1087 [5 November 1676]. Eyyûb Pasha's beylerbeyilik of Kars falls in the month of Şevval of the same year, that is, one or two months after the grand vizierate began. The text draws no link between the two events; but the fact that Eyyûb Pasha is counted among the pasha's close circle suggests reading the appointment in this context. This is an inference. A similar reading may be made of the dismissal: Kara Mustafa Pasha was executed in Belgrade on 6 Muharrem 1095 [25 December 1683], after the Vienna defeat; so 1095, the year of Eyyûb Pasha's dismissal, is the year his patron died. The text does not give the reason for the dismissal.
Kars and Şehrizor
Kars was a sanjak attached to Erzurum until it was made a separate beylerbeylik in 988 [1580], with Hızır Bey as its first beylerbeyi; that Hüsameddin says "Beylerbeyi of Kars" shows this status still held in 1676. Şehrizor is an area in present-day northern Iraq, near the pass where the Baghdad-Tabriz road crosses the Avraman mountains. It came under Ottoman rule in 1535 during Süleyman the Magnificent's Iraqeyn campaign, and afterwards became a province whose borders changed over time. From the second half of the seventeenth century Kirkuk comes forward as the administrative centre of the province; the region today lies within the area of Iraq's Sulaymaniyah province. Eyyûb Pasha's move from Kars to Şehrizor is a change of post between two eastern frontier provinces; the text gives no durations for the offices.
His End
The text says that in 1113 [1701-02] Eyyûb Pasha was assigned to the "Baghdad War" and was put to death on an imputation of teseyyüb. Which campaign this was, on whose order and where he was killed, is not written. No separate record of this event or of Eyyûb Pasha was found in the sources read; his terms in the sanjaks of Karahisâr-ı Şarkî and Canik also could not be verified.
