The Estergon War
Estergon (Esztergom) was a frontier fortress on the right bank of the Danube, taken by the Ottomans in 1543 and held until 1683 (apart from a ten-year interval). During the Long War (1593-1606) it was besieged in 1594; when Grand Vizier Koca Sinan Pasha approached with a large army, Archduke Matthias lifted the siege. A year later a larger army besieged the fortress again; the garrison resisted for a long time, and when the necessary help did not come, it surrendered the fortress in September 1595. The Ottomans took Estergon back on 3 October 1605. Since the Hijri year 1003 covers roughly October 1594 to September 1595, it cannot be understood from Hüsameddin's information in which of these two years' engagements Süheyloğlu Eyyûb Bey died.
Traces in Merzifon
The source that lists the waqf buildings of Merzifon mentions structures such as the Çelebi Sultan Mehmed Madrasa (1414), the Tâceddin İbrâhim Pasha Mosque and the Merzifonlu Kara Mustafa Pasha complex; the Süheyliye Madrasa does not appear in this enumeration. The same source also notes the tomb of Beylerbeyi Abdullah Pasha from the 16th century. Whether this Abdullah Pasha is the same person as the Abdullah Pasha whom Hüsameddin names as Eyyûb Bey's son is not clear; such a pairing rests only on the similarity of name and century, and is not certain. No further information was found in the sources we read on Nişâncı Mehmed Bey, Süheyl Bey or Yahyâ Çelebi.
