In Modern English
He was from Amasya. He was the son of Mehmed, a descendant of Selâmet Hâtun. After completing his studies he gave general lessons, and then became imam of the Selamet Hatun Lodge. When Seyyid Mehmed Ağa, trustee of the Selamet Hatun waqf, was dismissed in 1100 [1688-89] for having been involved in the Emîrler Incident, he also became trustee.
At this time the lodge, called the Yâ Vedûd Lodge, was well kept and flourishing. The trustee and imam of the lodge was the scholar Şeyhî Mehmed Efendi, and in 1110 [1698-99] Mustafa Efendi was also one of the scholars. The revenues of the waqf were spent on the food expenses of the lodge, and the lodge was enlivened with dhikr gatherings.
After serving about nineteen years as trustee, and more as imam, he died in 1119 [1707-08]. He was a learned, righteous imam. His son was Osman Efendi. Although the trusteeship had been given to Mustafa Efendi, the sheikh of the lodge, when he too died in 1121 [1709-10], Osman Efendi became trustee and imam.
When Osman Efendi died in 1141 [1728-29], his sons Seyyid İbrâhim and İsmâîl Efendi became imams and trustees jointly. When Seyyid İsmâîl Efendi died in 1156 [1743-44] and Seyyid İbrâhim Efendi in 1173 [1759-60], Seyyid Osman Efendi, son of İsmâîl Efendi, and Seyyid İsmâîl Efendi, son of İbrâhim Efendi, became imams and trustees.
In the administration of the waqf records it is written this way in the Amasya Accounting Register. Seyyid İsmâîl Efendi, son of Seyyid İbrâhim Efendi, is the Defterdar İsmâîl Efendi, known in Istanbul as Amasyalızâde; his life is written above. He relinquished the trusteeship he held to Seyyid Mahmûd Efendi in 1199 [1784-85].

Selâmet Hâtun and Her Lodge
In the first volume of his book, in the section where he lists the lodges, Hüsameddin writes that Selâmet Hâtun was the daughter of Nizâmeddin Abdurrahman Muslihî, the kadı of Amasya known as "Molla Beylik", and that she had the Yâ Vedûd Lodge built in 857 [1453] and arranged its waqfs. Sun'ullah Buhârî, one of the Naqshbandi masters, and his son Sheikh Abdülvedûd Efendi became sheikhs of the lodge, and the lodge came to be called "Yâ Vedûd" after Abdülvedûd Efendi. The same list records that in 1099 [1687-88] Sheikh Mehmed Efendi and in 1110 Sheikh Mustafa Efendi became sheikh together with the trusteeship; that after Mustafa Efendi died in 1121 his children passed into the sheikhship; and that in 1154 [1741-42], when the sheikhs were dismissed, the ders-i âm Seyyid Hâfız Hüseyin Efendi became sheikh and trustee and the lodge turned into a lecture hall. Hüsameddin says that this "system of inheritance" ruined the lodge. The names and dates in this entry (Mehmed Efendi, Mustafa Efendi, 1121) agree with that list; besides the chain of sheikhs, the entry appears to give the chain of imams and trustees descended from Selâmet Hâtun.
In another entry of Hüsameddin the sheikh of the Selâmet Hâtun Lodge is the Khalwati Cemâl Halîfe: he became sheikh when Habîb-i Karamânî died in 902 [1496-97], and the governor of Amasya, Prince Ahmed, sometimes attended his sermons. The sheikh list in the first volume does not contain this name and gives its order as Naqshbandi; the difference between the two records could not be resolved. Buhârîzâde Edhem Çelebi (Edhem Baba) was also a sheikh of the lodge; he died in the late 1000s [1592], and his children were called "Yâ Vedûd Oğulları". The building of the lodge has not survived: Hüsameddin says "now only the tomb of Selâmet Hâtun remains". The tomb in the Pirinççi quarter is square in plan, domed, and built of cut and rubble stone; it lies below street level, was registered as a monument in 1992, and is owned by the Foundations Directorate. The tales that circulate among the people (that Selâmet Hâtun was buried with her cow, or that she escaped the flood with her cows) rest on no historical source and remain local lore.
The Emîrler Incident
What the "Emîrler Incident", which led to the dismissal of the trustee Seyyid Mehmed Ağa, was cannot be understood from this entry. In another entry Hüsameddin dates the event to 1099 [1687-88] and writes that a Janissary officer retired because his neutral conduct during the event was counted as siding with the Emîrs. The event could not be found in sources outside these entries; so its nature and parties remain unclear. The dismissal of Mehmed Ağa in 1100 is also written as a result of the same event.
Defterdar İsmâîl Efendi of Amasya (Amasyalızâde)
Hüsameddin tells the life of Seyyid İsmâîl Efendi, named in the last lines of the entry, in a separate entry. According to it İsmâîl Efendi was the son of Hacı İbrâhim Ağa, kethüda of the Baltacılar; he came to Istanbul as a child with his father, entered the Finance Mektubî Office and became head khalifa. In Amasya he took the Saz Mâlikânesi mukataa as tax farm, and in 1197 attached himself to the Chief Black Eunuch İdris Ağa. In Muharrem 1200 [1785], with the rank of hâcegân, he was made defterdar of the first şık, and, because he could not satisfy the grand vizier Koca Yûsuf Pasha, was dismissed in Şevval of the same year. In 1201 he became Rikâb-ı Hümâyun Defterdarı, was dismissed again in 1202, was appointed to the same post a second time in 1203 [1788-89], and died in Ramazan of the same year. That he gave up the trusteeship in 1199 is written in this entry; that is, the relinquishment falls a short time before his appointment as defterdar. The same entry also includes a letter found among the papers in the Hagia Sophia vault, in which İsmâîl Efendi recommends a fellow townsman from Amasya to the governor of Anatolia, Seyyid Ali Pasha.
