In Modern English
He was a native of Amasya, a son of the former commander (serdar) of Amasya, Dal Ahmed Ağa. In the janissary corps he was known by the epithets "Çuçu" and "Somuncu." He had been dismissed without cause and sent into exile; upon his pardon, on the first day of Rebiülahir 1100 [January 1689] he became sanjak governor of Amasya and was assigned to the war in Rumeli. With fifteen thousand kuruş borrowed from the Istanbul treasury he organized his retinue (the people of his household, kapı halkı), appointed Rahtuvan Mehmed Ağa of the notables as mütesellim (deputy governor) of Amasya, and went to the war. He was busy punishing and rooting out the upstarts with the troops of the general mobilization (nefîr-i âm).
Mirza Mehmed Paşa, who was beylerbeyi of Sivas, sent his steward (kethüda), Hatibzâde Halil Ağa of Amasya, to Sivas as mütesellim. He himself, continuing the pursuit of bandits with which he had been charged and about to move toward the district of Geldiklân, caught the plague.
The inspector Kadızâde Hüseyin Pasha had at this time caught by surprise attack Ceridoğlu Mehmed Pasha, who had split from the slain Gedik Pasha and was plundering and committing banditry around Çorum, dispersed his band and executed him, and had come as far as the district of Geldiklân.
Rahtuvan Mehmed Ağa, the mütesellim of Amasya, appointed Kuloğlu Halil Ağa as deputy (kaymakam) of Amasya and went to Geldiklân together with the forces of the notables. They surrounded the whole district on every side and combed it. In the end they raided the Bayburdluoğlus at the Bağlıca Farm, where they had sheltered and hidden, caught and executed the pashas Hasan, Hüseyin and Ahmed, Hüseyin Pasha's steward and mütesellim Mahmud Bey, son of Veli Pasha, and their companions, and cleansed the sanjak of Amasya of the upstarts.
At the beginning of Cemaziyelevvel, when the Beylerbeyi of Sivas, Mirza Mehmed Pasha, died of the plague in Amasya, the beylerbeyi of Raqqa, Derviş Süleyman Pasha, became governor of Sivas with a vizierate in his place. In Cemaziyelahir a vizierate was given to Halil Pasha of Amasya, the guardian (muhafız) of Chania, and at the beginning of Receb to Köprülü Amcazâde Hüseyin Pasha, the guardian of Çardak.
Likewise, among the notables of Amasya whose services were noted, Peçelizâde Hasan Bey was given the sanjak of Canik, Çomar Ali Ağa that of Çorum and Yeğen Hasan Ağa that of Karahisâr-ı Şarkî, all with the rank of beylerbeyi; Bekir Beyzâde Ömer Bey was given the sanjak of Divriği, and the ağas Rahtuvan Mehmed the mütesellim and Bağdatlıoğlu Kara Mehmed were given the kapıcıbaşılık (headship of the gatekeepers) of the Imperial Council.
At the beginning of Şaban, Sanjak Governor Mustafa Bey of Amasya became beylerbeyi of Konya for the services he had shown in the wars, and the sanjak of Amasya was given to Hüseyin Pasha, one of the inspectors of Anatolia.

Çuçu Mustafa Bey
According to Hüsameddin's footnotes, "çuçu" means pretty, charming in Turkish, and Mustafa Bey is the ancestor of the Çuçuzâde family in Amasya. The author also shows with a document the loan Mustafa Bey took from the Istanbul treasury: in a debt register he saw in the waqf archive there is the entry "15000 kuruş given to Çuçu Mustafa Bey, Bey of Amasya, on the guarantee of Mustafa Efendi of Amasya, beginning of Rebiülahir"; the guarantor Mustafa Efendi is the rûznâmeci (daybook clerk) Sefer Ağazâde. This entry is a concrete example showing that in the Ottoman provinces a sanjak governor had to borrow in order to set up his retinue when taking up his post. That the previous entry says Ömer Paşazâde Ebubekir Ağa came to the post of kul kethüdası "through Çuçu Mustafa Ağa of Amasya" also shows Mustafa Bey's influence in the janissary corps. No information about this person was found in other sources.
The End of the Bayburdluoğlus
According to Hüsameddin, Yeğen Osman Pasha's sons the pashas Hasan and Hüseyin, his nephew Ahmed Pasha, and Hüseyin Pasha's steward Mahmud Bey, son of Veli Pasha, were caught and executed at the Bağlıca Farm in Geldiklân when the notables of Amasya surrounded them. In Meryem Kaçan Erdoğan's study, by contrast, it is stated that Yeğen's maternal uncle Kara Hasan Bey, who dominated Konya, and his nephew Ahmed Bey were removed in 1688. These two pieces of information do not fully coincide in date and person; there may be different relatives bearing the same names, or the echo of the events in the provinces may have been reflected differently in different sources.
Yeğen Osman Pasha's own end came in the same months. Yeğen, who had withdrawn to Sofia to pass the winter, had had houses and stables, called Yeğenâbâd, built there on the vineyard side and levied extra taxes (salma) on the surrounding people. The serasker Receb Pasha, sent against him, first raided and killed his nephew, called "Küçük Yeğen" (Little Yeğen), and thirty-five of his men in the inns of Plovdiv. As the ring of the general-mobilization troops tightened, Yeğen fled toward Niš with Deli Veli Pasha, Uzun Mehmed Pasha, Yadigâroğlu Mustafa Pasha and more than a thousand men; after Kosovo he passed to the town of Peć. Five caravans' loads of gold were captured here from his men who were caught. Yeğen tried to flee with thirty men but was caught in pursuit and killed, and his head was sent to Edirne. In the same period Gedik Mehmed Pasha in Sivas and Ceridoğlu in Çorum were also removed, and the names sarıca and sekban were officially abolished. Hüsameddin's record that Kadızâde Hüseyin Pasha raided and executed Ceridoğlu is consistent with this general information.
The Bağlıca Farm
Today there is a village called Bağlıca, attached to central Amasya, in the west of the city. Whether the "Bağlıca Farm" that Hüsameddin gives as the place where the Bayburdluoğlus were caught is the same place as this village could not be verified with documents; however, the fact that the district of Geldiklân covered the western part of Amasya strengthens this possibility.
Vizierate Appointments
One of the appointments at the end of the entry can be verified with another source. Amcazâde Hüseyin Pasha, son of Hasan Ağa, the younger brother of Köprülü Mehmed Pasha, was removed from Istanbul after the rout at Vienna with the beylerbeyilik of Şehrizor, was then given the sanjak of Kastamonu and the guardianship of Çardak near Gallipoli, and in 1689 was appointed with the rank of vizier to the guardianship of Boğazhisar. Hüsameddin's record that "a vizierate was given to Köprülü Amcazâde Hüseyin Pasha, the guardian of Çardak" at the beginning of Receb 1100 (April-May 1689) agrees with this information. Amcazâde Hüseyin Pasha became grand vizier in 1697, and the treaty made at Karlowitz on 26 January 1699 with Austria, Poland and Venice was concluded in his grand vizierate. About Derviş Süleyman Pasha, who was brought to the governorship of Sivas while beylerbeyi of Raqqa, and the guardian of Chania Halil Pasha of Amasya, no information was found in other sources.
The sanjaks and ranks given to the notables of Amasya show that the state rewarded the local forces that cleared Yeğen Osman Pasha's men from the sanjaks. That the sanjaks of Canik, Çorum and Karahisâr-ı Şarkî, distributed a year earlier to Yeğen's sons and men, were this time given to the notables of Amasya who fought them clearly shows how quickly the balance in the provinces changed in 1688-1689.
