In Modern English

He was a native of Amasya. He was a son of Hacı Mehmed Efendi, known as "Hacı Efendizâde." On the eleventh of Safer 1046 [1636–37] he came as mutasarrıf (governor administering the sanjak) of Amasya. Since he was very old, his brother's son Sarı Mehmed Ağa, who was his kethüda, became mütesellim (deputy) of Amasya.

At the beginning of Cemâziyelevvel, since Kadı Hasan Efendi's customary term of office had ended, Hacı Hızır Efendi son of Bayram Efendi became kadı of Amasya. Hızır Bey son of Keyvân, returning from the war, applied to the court and became mütevelli of the Hızır Pasha Waqf when his sister Nâzenîn Hanım withdrew.

In the middle of Cemâziyelevvel, because the aggressive conduct of Mütesellim Sarı Mehmed Ağa wearied the notables and the people, he was dismissed; his kethüdâyeri Şâtır Ali Ağa became mütesellim of Amasya and the people found peace.

On the seventh day of Ramazan, when the deputy grand vizier (sadaret kaymakamı) Bayram Pasha son of Kurd Ağa of Lâdik became grand vizier, his kethüda Köse Ali Ağa of Geldiklân became sadaret kethüdası (steward of the grand vizierate). The imam of the said grand vizier became Mustafa Efendi son of Şeyh Muharrem Efendi; after that Hüseyin Efendi son of Hacı Beni, a native of Amasya, became reîsülküttâp.

At the beginning of Zilkade, Grand Vizier Bayram Pasha came to Amasya with a great procession and settled. He tried to complete the campaign preparations. But, not liking the conduct of the mutasarrıf Mustafa Pasha and his kethüda Sarı Mehmed Ağa, he dismissed Mustafa Pasha and gave the sanjak of Amasya to Murtezâ Pasha, former beylerbeyi of Batum.

Bayram Pasha Becomes Grand Vizier

Besides the small changes in the sanjak of Amasya, this entry records the coming to office of a grand vizier with ties to the city. According to the encyclopedia entry, Bayram Pasha was originally of Ladik and his father's name was Kurd Ağa; he was born in Istanbul, rose from the Janissary Corps, served as governor of Egypt, in 1633 became beylerbeyi of Rumeli and then second vizier, and in the 1635 Revan campaign served as deputy grand vizier. Hüsameddin's phrase "kaymakam sadr-ı âlî" corresponds to this office. He succeeded Tabanıyassı Mehmed Pasha as grand vizier. Hüsameddin's "Kurd Ağazâde" also agrees with the father's name in the encyclopedia.

The sources differ on the date of appointment. Hüsameddin gives the seventh day of Ramazan 1046; this date corresponds in the Gregorian calendar to the first weeks of 1637. In the encyclopedia entry, however, "February 1636" is written. Thus there is a difference of a year between the year in the entry and Hüsameddin's date. The difference may arise from the year recorded in one of the sources; it could not be verified with the sources at hand.

The encyclopedia entry writes that after becoming grand vizier Bayram Pasha was sent to the Persian front as serdar, toured Bolu, Amasya, Niğde, Tokat and Konya and took over the army at Sivas, and after the cannon were transported to Mosul withdrew to winter quarters at Amasya. The lines in which Hüsameddin describes his coming to Amasya at the beginning of Zilkade relate to this campaign preparation. Bayram Pasha's interest in Amasya is told in detail in the next entry.

Mutasarrıf Mustafa Pasha

No information was found in other sources on Hacı Efendizâde Mustafa Pasha. According to Hüsameddin's record, because of his old age he left the administration to his kethüda Sarı Mehmed Ağa, whose harshness wearied the people, and the sanjak was taken from him. The next entry relates that, out of respect for Mustafa Pasha's old age, he was brought to the trusteeship of the Sultan Bayezid waqfs and died in 1047. No information was found in other sources on Hacı Benîzâde Hüseyin Efendi and Köse Ali Ağa of Geldiklân either; Hüsameddin mentions the same person in a later entry as "Hacı Nebîzâde," and this difference in spelling is in the book itself.
