In Modern English

He was a native of Amasya. He was famous as "Üveys Bey" and was a son of Seyfullah Bey son of Mustafa, one of the zeamet holders. He had become a mirliva (sanjak governor) from the alaybeyliği of Amasya. On the seventh day of Zilhicce 1043 [1633–34] he was appointed Bey of Amasya and assigned to the Revan Campaign. His kethüdâyeri Kırmacı Mehmed Ağa became mütesellim (deputy) of Amasya; on the fourteenth day es-Seyyid eş-Şeyh Ahmed Efendi became nakîbü'l-eşrâf kaymakamı.

At the beginning of Muharrem 1044 [1634–35] Mehmed Efendi son of İbrâhim Efendi, of Hacı Efendi's family, became kadı of Amasya; the Beylerbeyi of Sivas was Ali Pasha of Besni. This year military preparations and the procurement of supplies for the Revan War began to be seen on every side.

But since the mirliva died by chance while going to Erzurum, the sanjak of Amasya was given in the middle of Muharrem to Mehmed Bey, Bey of Eskişehir; he himself was assigned to the Erzurum Camp.

The Revan Campaign and the Erzurum Camp

According to the book's account, Üveys Bey's sanjak governorship was short: appointed on the seventh of Zilhicce 1043, he died by accident on the road to Erzurum in the middle of Muharrem 1044. The Revan Campaign mentioned here is Murad IV's first personal campaign to the east. According to an encyclopedia entry the sultan set out from Üsküdar on 28 March 1635. According to another account, Murad IV was the first sultan since Süleyman the Magnificent to go on an eastern campaign at the head of the army; he reached Sivas on 22 May, when it became clear that the target of the campaign was Revan the concentration of troops began to be made at Erzurum, and the sultan reached Erzurum on 3 July. Revan Fortress was besieged and taken between 28 July and 8 August 1635.

Hüsâmeddin's phrase "assigned to the Revan Campaign" places Üveys Bey's appointment in Zilhicce 1043, that is, June 1634. This date is about nine months before the sultan's departure date of March 1635. The book relates this early preparation separately: "This year preparations for supplies and military necessities began to be seen on every side for the Revan War." No information was found in other sources that preparation for the campaign began this early.

Mehmed Bey, Bey of Eskişehir, appointed in Üveys Bey's place, is most probably the Köprülü Mehmed Bey named in the next entry. His identity is not given in this entry, but in the next entry it is written that Köprülü Mehmed Bey became Bey of Amasya on the thirteenth of Muharrem and was assigned to the Erzurum Camp; the two records appear to describe the same appointment.

As for Ali Pasha of Besni, Beylerbeyi of Sivas, no information was found in other sources.
