The Lineage and Lâdik
In this entry Hüsameddin gives a lineage of two generations (Selamiş Bey, Osman Pasha) and three dates. No mention of Selamiş Bey, or of Osman Pasha's emirate of Lâdik, was found in other sources; the accuracy of the lineage therefore could not be tested. In the Ottoman period Lâdik was a district attached to the sanjak of Amasya. When Prince Bayezid was sanjak governor in Amasya, he used Lâdik as his summer residence and spent the summer there every year. This information belongs to the second half of the fifteenth century and does not fit the period in which Umûr Bey lived; it is mentioned only to show Lâdik's place within the administration of Amasya.
The War of Prince Mustafa
Hüsameddin writes that Umûr Bey died in 826 [1422-23] in the "war of Prince Sultan Mustafa". In the first year of the reign of Murad II, who took the throne after the death of Çelebi Sultan Mehmed, a rebellion arose under the name of Mustafa Çelebi (the Pretender). Mustafa tried to seize İznik with Byzantine help, and Murad II, at the urging of Yörgüç Pasha, marched against him and eliminated him. That the war in the text is this rebellion is an inference; Hüsameddin does not describe Mustafa any further. It is also not written on which side Umûr Bey stood in this clash or in what capacity.
His Son Saruca Pasha
According to Hüsameddin, Umûr Bey's son is Saruca Pasha. In the reign of Murad II there was a vizier known as Saruca Pasha: as governor-general of Rumelia and vizier he played a part in relations with the West, and when he was dismissed in 1435-36 he served for a time in Amasya as tutor to Prince Alâeddin, then became captain of Gallipoli and had a mosque built in Edirne. That this vizier is the same person as the Saruca said to be Umûr Bey's son is also an inference, and it carries a difficulty: in the testament of Murad II dated 1446 the vizier's name appears as "Saruca b. Abdullah", and for this reason he is supposed to have been of Rum origin and a devshirme recruit. Such an origin does not fit a father descended from the emirs of Lâdik. Which of the two is correct could not be determined in this study.
During the years when Yörgüç Pasha was governor-general of Rum, after Karakoyunlu troops plundered the vicinity of Tokat, the sources write that Timurtaşoğlu Umur Bey, governor-general of Anatolia, was sent to Tokat. Since Hüsameddin's Umûr Bey died in 826 [1422-23], there is no sign that these are the same person, and it would be hard for them to be; this too is an inference.
