The Lineage

According to the chain in the text, Üveys Bey is the son of Abdullah Bey, son of Ali Bey, son of Abdî Bey, son of Yörgüç Pasha (d. 1442); that is, a great-great-grandson of Yörgüç Pasha. The links of the chain could not be verified in other sources: among the sons of Yörgüç Pasha the sources count Hızır, Yûnus, Mustafa and Molla Îsâ. No information on Üveys Bey, his father Abdullah Bey or Ali Bey was found in other sources.

Attachment to Selim and Kayseri

According to one view Selim the Grim was born in 1467-68, and with greater probability in 1470, in Amasya, where his father Bayezid II was sanjak governor. Before his accession Selim was a prince in Trabzon; at what stage Üveys Bey attached himself to him is not written in the text. The text suggests that the sanjak governorship of Kayseri was given in 1512, the year of Selim's accession, or at a time close to it; no exact date is written.

The Battle of Çaldıran

The battle was fought on 23 August 1514 on the plain of Çaldıran between Selim the Grim and the Safavid Shah Ismail, and ended in a decisive Ottoman victory. On the Ottoman side the governor-general of Rumelia, Hasan Pasha, and ten sanjak governors lost their lives. Üveys Bey may have been one of these ten sanjak governors; but his name does not appear in the accounts read, so this link could not be verified. After the battle the sultan spent the winter in Amasya.
