The Yakub Paşa Quarter
In Amasya there is a mosque and çilehane known by the name of Yakub Pasha; that the quarter takes its name from this building is an inference, and the text does not say so. The abstract of an article on the Yakub Pasha Çilehane-Mosque in Amasya states that the building was built in 1412 by the vizier Yakub Pasha for a Halveti sheikh; since the full text of the article could not be reached, this information could not be verified. A study of the zawiyas of Amasya mentions a document dated 1103 [1691-92] in which a zawiya keeper was appointed on condition that he teach in the Yakub Pasha Mosque. Whether Yakub Bey and his son had any connection with this building is not known.
The Georgian and Caucasian Wars
Hüsameddin does not write which campaigns he means. Since the sipahi died in 1010 [1601-02], these wars are most probably the Ottoman-Safavid war that began in 1578; this is an inference. On 9 August 1578 the Battle of Çıldır ended in an Ottoman victory, the rest of the Atabeg country of Georgia was conquered, and the province of Çıldır was established in 1579. At the beginning of the seventeenth century the province reached its widest extent and fielded 656 timar-holding sipahis, ninety-seven of them zeamet holders and 559 timar holders. In what capacity the sipahis of the sanjak of Amasya joined the army or campaigns of this province is not given in the sources read; that is, which campaigns Yakub Bey went on could not be verified. No information on Yakub Bey and his son Veli Bey was found in other sources.
