In Modern English

He was a native of Amasya. He was the son of Saadeddin Mehmed Pasha, son of Salih Çelebi, one of the notables of renown, who was known as Şeyh Pasha. While he was one of the well-known zeamet holders he passed into the ranks of the emirs and was seen among the emirs in the retinue of the governor of Amasya, Prince Sultan Alâeddin Bey. When the prince was strangled he became sanjak bey of Canik. He died a martyr at the conquest of Istanbul in 857 [1453-54]. His brother Davud Bey is also among the well-known emirs.

Prince Alâeddin and Amasya

The governor named in the text is Alâeddin Ali Çelebi, a son of Murad II. Beginning with Çelebi Mehmed, Amasya was a centre where Ottoman princes such as Murad II, Mehmed the Conqueror and Bayezid II served as sanjak beys; Murad II's son Alâeddin also served there as an administrator. According to the source that was read, Alâeddin Ali Çelebi died at the end of 1443, and this death left his brother Mehmed the sole heir to the throne. The same source does not state how he died. Hüsameddin's word "ihnâk" could therefore not be verified in another source.

Şeyh Paşazade and Canik

The siege of Istanbul lasted fifty-four days in 857, from 6 April to 29 May 1453; the date of death that Hüsameddin gives fits this span. No information was found in the sources that were read about Saadeddin Mehmed Pasha, known as Şeyh Pasha, his father Salih Çelebi, Bayram Bey's brother Davud Bey, or Bayram Bey himself. When and for what reason he was appointed to the sanjak of Canik also could not be verified by a document. The name "Şeyh Paşazade" in the heading comes from his father being called Şeyh Pasha.
