Prince Ahmed's Governorship of Amasya

Şehzade Ahmed (Büyük Ahmed), the eldest son of Murad II, was born in Amasya in 1420. After Yörgüç Pasha was sent to the guardianship of Edirne in 1435, he became sanjak governor of Amasya; after about three years in this post he died in Amasya in 1438. This agrees with the dates 838 [1434-35] and 841 [1437-38] given by Hüsameddin. Another source writes that Ahmed lived from 1419 to 1437 and was buried in the tomb of Murad II in the Muradiye complex in Bursa; the difference in years is a matter of one year. What Hüsameddin describes as "buried near the Şehzadeler Türbesi" is Ahmed's wife, and does not conflict with Ahmed's own grave.

The Eratna Line

Before Hacı Şadgeldi, Amasya remained under the rule of Eretna, who ruled in Sivas, and of the beys who succeeded him. Şadgeldi took the city by defeating Ali Bey, son of Eretna. The name Ali Bey occurs in the genealogy Hüsameddin gives; it may be assumed that this Ali Bey is the same as the Ali Bey, son of Eretna, who lost to Şadgeldi, but this has not been verified from another source (inference). No information was found in other sources on Yûsuf Bey and his daughter.

The Fethiye Mosque

The Fethiye Mosque in Amasya was converted from a Byzantine church. The church is believed to have been built in the 7th century on the orders of Helena, daughter of the Byzantine emperor Phocas; in the Dânişmend period it was turned into a mosque by Fetih Gazi, governor of Amasya, and took the name Fethiye Mosque. The building wore down considerably over time; it was repaired and reopened for worship in 1956, and last restored in 2006 by the General Directorate of Foundations. No information was found in other sources on Emine Hanım's waqf of 1058 [1648] or on Can Mirza Pasha.
