In Modern English

He is the son of Seyyid Ahmed Bey, that is, of Seyyid Ahmed Bey son of Seyyid İn'âm Bey, who was killed unjustly in 1038 [1628-29] while sanjak governor of Kayseri. He was steward (kethüda) of Kal'a-i Bâlâ with a zeamet, and for a time its warden (dizdar); through the favor of Köprülüzâde Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha he became a mîrlivâ (sanjak governor). He died after 1087 [1676-77]. His sons were es-Seyyid Mehmed and Ali Ağa. They were called the İn'âmoğulları.

The Family and the Previous Entry

This entry should be read together with the previous one. In the previous entry Hüsameddin writes that Mîrlivâ Seyyid Ahmed Bey, son of İn'âm Bey (d. 1013 [1604-05]), was killed unjustly in 1038 while sanjak governor of Kayseri. The person here is the son of that Seyyid Ahmed Bey; that is, the grandson of the İn'âm Bey of the previous entry. Hüsameddin adds that the family was known as the "İn'âmoğulları". No information was found in another source on the death of Seyyid Ahmed Bey.

Kal'a-i Bâlâ

The place called "Kal'a-i Bâlâ" (upper fortress) in the text is probably the Amasya fortress; but since the text does not name the fortress explicitly, this is an inference. Who built the Amasya fortress is not known for certain. The fortress, which controlled the Samsun-Tokat road in the Seljuk period, kept its importance under the Ottomans. In the early 16th century it had a warden, a steward and fifty-seven garrison men. From the 18th century the fortress lost its importance and began to fall into ruin. The stewardship and wardenship Hüsameddin attributes to İn'âmzâde may be a continuation of this staffing structure in the following century (inference).

Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha

Köprülüzâde Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha was grand vizier from 31 October 1661 to 3 November 1676; important campaigns of this period were Uyvar (1663), Candia in Crete (1669) and Kamianets (1672). Since İn'âmzâde's rank as mîrlivâ came through Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha's favor, it was most likely given during his grand vizierate (1661-1676); Hüsameddin's "died after 1087" is consistent with this (inference). The sanjak in which he served as mîrlivâ is not stated in the text.
