Family and Descent
The line of descent in the entry is confirmed by another entry of Hüsameddin. According to the entry Ebûbekir Bey-Dervîş Beyzâde, Ebûbekir Bey was the son of Derviş Bey, of the line of Şâdgeldi Pasha, the great emir of Amasya; he was kethüda of his brother-in-law Hüseyin Pasha, several times mütesellim of Amasya after 1040 [1630-31], and sanjak governor of Amasya in Zilhicce 1054 [1645]. He was complained of for collecting by harsh means the revenues demanded by Haseki Sultan, the hass holder of the sanjak; in 1055 he was dismissed, sent to Samsun and put in a fortress prison, and died there in 1056, and his property was confiscated. A mansion and a farm were left to his children, that is, Ömer and Osman Bey and Emine and Sâfiye Hanım, and they and their descendants were called "Ebûbekir Beyzâdes". The younger son Ömer became governor of Anatolia, vizier Ömer Pasha; among his sons Mirliva of Egypt el-Hâc Osman and Mehmed Bey are named.
In this chain Derviş Mehmed Ağa's father Osman Bey is a son of Ebûbekir Bey, while the Mirliva of Egypt Hacı Osman Bey is the son of Ömer Pasha, Ebûbekir Bey's other son. That is, Hacı Osman Bey is the son of Derviş Mehmed Ağa's paternal uncle, which agrees exactly with the entry's "ammizâdesi". In this case Eyyûb Ağa's going to Egypt means finding work beside a relative; this is an inference, as the text does not give the reason for his going.
In another entry Hüsameddin summarizes the same line as follows: the Ebûbekir Beyzâdes lived in Amasya until 1260 [1844], and one branch was in Istanbul; Hüseyin Pasha, Ömer Pasha and Ebûbekir Pasha are famous from the line. In the entry Ahmed Ağa-Sancızâde a man of Amasya is named who was raised in the circle of Bekir Beyzâde Ömer Pasha and became kethüda of the latter's son Osman Bey; in 1133 [1720-21] he was exiled over an inquiry, entered the council of the ayan on his return, became mütesellim of Amasya in 1140 [1727-28], and died in 1142. Whether this Osman Bey is the Mirliva of Egypt Hacı Osman Bey is not written.
Kethüdâ and Wealth
According to Mehmet Canatar, beylerbeyis and sanjak governors in Ottoman administration had personal kethüdâs; these helped the administrator in collecting taxes, and their selection lay entirely at the administrator's discretion. Eyyûb Ağa's gaining "influence and wealth" as Hacı Osman Bey's kethüdâ fits this arrangement. How many years he stayed in Egypt and when he went is not written; it is known only that he came back to Amasya in 1158 [1745-46] together with the return from the Hejaz.
The Eski Kethüdâ Quarter and the Hacı Eyyûb Oğulları
No information was found in the sources read on the present name of the Eski Kethüdâ quarter, where the mansion he had built stood, or on the fate of the mansion. The later generations of the family can be followed in Hüsameddin's book: Eyyûb Ağa, son of Ömer Ağa, is named a few entries later (Hacı Eyyûboğlu) as kethüda of Osman Beyzâde Abdullah Bey; thus the post of kethüda appears to have continued in the same circle for two generations. This too is an inference.
