The Köprü District
The place Hüsameddin calls "Köprü" is today Vezirköprü, in Samsun province. Evliya Çelebi in 1647 describes the town as the "Köprü" district attached to the Sanjak of Amasya and writes that it had 140 villages; Köprü was greatly affected by the Celali rebellions. This description makes it natural for a scholar from Köprü to go to Amasya to study and, once trained, to return to the district to which he belonged; for at the time of Evliya Çelebi's travels Köprü was within the boundaries of the sanjak of Amasya.
No information on the Abdulkerîm Ağa Madrasa in which İbrâhim Efendi served, or on Murâd Bey's mâlikâne, was found in a readable source other than Hüsameddin. In some sources a madrasa of Abdülkerim Ağa built in the eighteenth century in Vezirköprü was seen mentioned; however, since the relevant page could not be read, this information could not be verified.
