In Modern English
He was from Amasya. He was the son of Karakadı Hayreddîn Hızır Efendi, who had a mosque and school built at Bozahane, on the old Menzilhane Street in Amasya. He studied with the scholars of Amasya and became a public-lecture teacher and madrasa professor. Then he went to Istanbul and, as a mülâzım (candidate for judgeships and professorships) under Şeyhülislam Mü'eyyedzâde Abdülkâdir Şeyhî Efendi, became a madrasa professor and a judge.
Because he was married to the sister of İğnecizâde Ömer Efendi of Amasya, during the latter's rise he was appointed molla of Kayseriye, judge of Amasya and molla of Trablusşam. In 1023 [1614-15] he retired from the judgeship of Hama and came to Amasya, and he died at the end of the year 1026 [1617]. He was one of the great scholars and of the mevâlî.
He expanded his father's waqf; he endowed his vineyard near Kurtboğan on his children. His sons were Mustafa Efendi and Mehmed Efendi. The vizier İbrâhim Pasha, Mustafa Efendizâde, was killed in 1074 [1663-64]; the biographies of his son Mustafa Bey, of Mehmed Efendizâde Halîl Efendi, and of his son Mehmed Efendi come below.

An Amasya Family on the Path of Learning
Mü'eyyedzâde Abdülkâdir Şeyhî Efendi (1514-1594) was one of the Ottoman şeyhülislams; as a student of Ebussuud Efendi he taught in madrasas at Çorlu and Istanbul, served as judge in Damascus, Egypt, Bursa and Istanbul, became şeyhülislam in 1587 and was dismissed in 1589. İbrâhim Efendi's becoming a mülazım under this man shows that he entered the path of judgeship and professorship in Istanbul through this connection.
The kinship with Ömer Efendi of Amasya, the sultan's tutor, was decisive in the rise of the Karakadızâdes. Ömer Efendi was the tutor of Osman II and held a strong place in the administration; this influence was reflected in the judgeships of Kayseri, Amasya and Trablusşam going to İbrâhim Efendi, his sister's husband. The next link of this family is his grandson İbrâhim Pasha; his execution in 1663-64 is told separately in entry 119 of the book.
The present-day equivalents of the places named Bozahane, Menzilhane Street and Kurtboğan could not be found. It also could not be determined whether the mosque of Hayreddîn Hızır Efendi is still standing.
