The Atabegiyye Madrasa
The Atabegiyye (Atabey) Madrasa, in which Şeyhoğlu served as müderris, is the madrasa built during the governorship of Amasya (1322-1327) of Nâsıreddin Ahmed Bey, atabey (tutor) of the Seljuk Sultan Gıyaseddin Mesud II's son Gazi Çelebi Tâceddin Altunbaş. Nâsıreddin Ahmed endowed all his land and property to the madrasa. His descendants were called the Atabeyzâdes, and the family became famous in the fifteenth century for serving as tutors (lala) of princes; they were influential in the political and scholarly life of Amasya. Şeyhoğlu's becoming müderris here in 1418-19 shows that the madrasa continued its teaching a hundred years later with the waqf revenues.
That his grandson Abdurrahman Çelebi became chief judge of Amasya shows that the family stayed in the service of learning and judgeship for three generations. No information was found in other sources on Tokatlı Şeyhoğlu, his son Cemâleddin Yusuf Çelebi and his grandson Abdurrahman Çelebi.
