Bayburtluzâde Kara İbrâhim Pasha
Kara İbrâhim Pasha, of whom Hüsameddin says "he became one of his ağas", was born in 1030 (1620-21) in the village of Handevrek in Kelkit, attached to Bayburt, the son of a villager named Katırcı Ahmed. In his youth he served as a levend soldier in the retinue of Abaza Hasan; after the suppression of the revolt (1659) he fled to Iran, and on his return came under the patronage of Firârî Mustafa Pasha and then attached himself to the grand vizier's kethüda Merzifonlu Kara Mustafa Ağa. When Merzifonlu became grand vizier he was admitted to the Divan as third vizier; after the failure of the Siege of Vienna he turned against his former master, and Kara Mustafa Pasha was executed on 6 Muharrem 1095 (25 December 1683); Kara İbrâhim Pasha then served as grand vizier for about two years.
After being removed from the grand vizierate, Kara İbrâhim Pasha was imprisoned and his property confiscated, banished to Rhodes in Rebîülâhir 1097 (March 1686), and killed there in Şaban 1098 (June-July 1687) by the chief gatekeeper Kör Mustafa Bey. Hüsameddin's words "in 1098, on the death of the aforementioned, he came to Istanbul" match this date exactly; although it is not entirely clear which of the two persons named in the text is meant, this match points to the killing of Kara İbrâhim Pasha. This is an inference.
Amasya and Merzifon Connections
Kara İbrâhim Pasha's master, Merzifonlu Kara Mustafa Pasha, was brought up under the patronage of Köprülü Mehmed Bey (Pasha) while the latter was sanjak bey of Amasya. That İsmâil Ağa was among Kara İbrâhim Pasha's ağas can be read within these regional ties; but no record of him was found.
