In Modern English

He is the person who, while steward of the crown revenues in Amasya, became treasurer of Sivas. In Shawwal of the year 970 [1562–63] he came as bey of Amasya. Lâlî Ahmed Efendi had also become judge of Amasya. In their time the warden of the upper castle (kal'a-i bâlâ) was Sinan Ağa.

Notes and Research

Old Words in the Text

  • hâslar emâneti: the office overseeing the collection of crown revenues; "has" means revenue set aside for the sultan and the great men of the state
  • defterdâr: official at the head of financial affairs and records
  • kal'a-i bâlâ: the upper castle, that is, the upper part of Amasya Castle
  • dizdâr: castle commander

Who Is Mehmed Bey

The previous entry wrote that Mehmed Çelebi was appointed to the beylik of Amasya in the month of Shawwal. Since the same year and the same month are given here, Mehmed Bey and Mehmed Çelebi are understood to be the same person. Hüsameddin gives only his service record: the stewardship of the crown revenues in Amasya and then the treasurership of Sivas.

As for Lâlî Ahmed Efendi, the next entry counts him among the poets and reports that he died in Muharram 972 while judge of Amasya. Muzaffer Efendi became judge in his place for the second time. No other record was found for the castle warden Sinan Ağa either. In the searches made, no separate source confirming these names was found.
