In Modern English

He was the son of Hacı Beyzâde Velî Pasha of Amasya. When Prince Sultan Murad was transferred to Manisa, he became bey of Amasya in Rabi al-Akhir of the year 976 [1568–69]. In this year Sheikh Abdurrahîm Efendi, one of the Khalwati sheikhs, died.

Because İlyâs Bey showed merit in suppressing the bandits who had appeared around Amasya, he was promoted in Rajab of 977 [1569–70] and appointed beylerbeyi of Kaffa; in his place Kâsım Bey became mîrlivâ (sanjak bey) of Amasya.

The Khalwatiyya and Amasya

The Khalwatiyya, to which Sheikh Abdurrahîm Efendi belonged, was a widespread order in Amasya. According to an article written on this subject, Amasya is one of the cities where the order was most widespread in Anatolia. The Khalwatiyya entered the life of the city at the beginning of the fifteenth century with Pîr İlyas's return from Shirvan to Amasya, and until the end of the nineteenth century it directly affected the social, political, cultural and religious life of the city. The article also says that the order played a role in favor of the state in Ottoman–Safavid relations and contributed to the security of the eastern frontiers.

Hüsameddin's recording the deaths of order sheikhs among the sanjak beys is therefore an understandable choice. As to who Sheikh Abdurrahîm Efendi was, no record was found in the article in question, which surveys the Khalwati lodges; his name is seen only in Hüsameddin.

İlyâs Bey's Appointment

İlyâs Bey stayed in Amasya a little over a year. A footnote notes that his appointment to the beylerbeyilik of Kaffa is based on the register of decrees (ahkâm defteri). No information was found in another source about Hacı Beyzâde Velî Pasha and Kâsım Bey.
