In Modern English

He was one of the devshirme recruits. While among the servants of Selim II, he left the palace in Safar of the year 983 [1575–76] as mîrlivâ (sanjak governor) of Amasya. In Rabi al-Awwal of the same year, the military judge (kazasker) of Rumeli, Abdurrahmân Efendi of Amasya, known as "Kızıl Molla," died. He was buried in the grounds of the school he had had built near the Emîr Buhârî Lodge.

Şehsüvâr Bey remained in Amasya as governor for more than a year and a half. During his administration, at the beginning of 984 [1576–77], Dervîş Mehmed Efendi, one of the scholars and famous hâfızes, became preacher (hatib) of the Sultan Bâyezîd Mosque in Amasya. He was a man with a very beautiful voice. In Shawwal, Şehsüvâr Bey went to Nicopolis. Kaya Pasha came as mutasarrıf of Amasya.

Kızıl Molla Abdurrahman Efendi

Elsewhere in the book, when narrating the life of Begtemuroğlu İskender Bey, Hüsameddin also gives a place to Kızıl Molla. According to it, İskender Bey had settled in Istanbul as kethüda (steward who ran the affairs) of Military Judge Abdurrahman Efendi of Amasya, went with his master to Egypt and the Hejaz in 969 [1561–62], and on their return, when his master again became military judge of Rumeli, his fortune too brightened. Abdurrahman Efendi died in Rabi al-Awwal 983, and his steward died five or six months after him. This date agrees with the record here.

Kızıl Molla is also known for his criticisms directed at Kemalpaşazâde (İbn Kemal); a bibliography lists a master's thesis titled "Kızıl Molla Abdurrahman b. Ali el-Amasî'nin İbn Kemal'in Hidâye şerhi üzerine itirazları." This information suggests that he was a scholar of Amasya origin with views of his own in the field of jurisprudence. No source was found for a more detailed life story. No separate record was found either concerning Hüsameddin's phrase "the school near the Emîr Buhârî Lodge."

Şehsüvâr Bey and Dervîş Mehmed Efendi

It is understood from the text that Şehsüvâr Bey was of devshirme origin and was appointed to Amasya on leaving the palace. This name was not found in other sources. No additional information was found about Dervîş Mehmed Efendi, preacher of the Sultan Bâyezîd Mosque.
