The Subaşıs of Amasya
The subaşılık was one of the important posts of city administration in Seljuk Amasya. In the sources describing the Seljuk period of Amasya it is written that Hacı Armağanşah, appointed subaşı of Amasya in the time of Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev II, who reigned from 1237 to 1246, was charged with suppressing the Babai uprising. This shows that the subaşı ran the city's administration as a military force.
A long gap between the dates draws attention. His father is mentioned as subaşı in the time of Sultan Mesud, while his son is in the reign of İzzeddin Keykâvus I (1211-1220) and dies in 1221-22. In Anatolian Seljuk history the sultans named Mesud are Mesud I (1116-1156) and, later, Mesud II; in whose time his father served is not clear from the text.
No information on Musa Bey, İbrahim Bey, Zahîreddin Hurşîd Bey and Nizâmeddin Mehmed Bey was found in other sources.
