In Modern English

He was from Ziyareli, near Amasya. After completing his education in Amasya he gave public lectures, then became müderris of the Kâsım Bey Madrasa in Hakala; when removed from that post, he became kürsü şeyhi (preaching-chair sheikh) of the Sultan Bayezid Mosque. In 1099 [1687-88], in the Emîrler incident, he was removed from his post and decided to go to the Hejaz; on his return he settled in Ziyâre and continued preaching and giving counsel.

He died in early 1114 [1702-03]. He was one of the scholars. His sons Halîl and İsmâil Efendi also became imams of the said mosque; Halîl Efendi died in 1152 [1739-40] and İsmâil Efendi in 1173 [1759-60]. İsmâil Efendi's son Sâlih Efendi became imam, and when he died in 1209 [1794-95], the imamate was given to his sons es-Seyyid el-Hâc Abdulganî, Halîl and Mehmed Efendi. They were called the "Hacı İmâmoğulları".

Hakala and the Kasım Bey Madrasa

Hakala was a settlement known for its madrasas. The Kasım Bey Madrasa was built in 1464 by Kasım Bey, one of Prince Bayezid's emirs, and gave instruction until 1827; it is counted among the first forty madrasas of Amasya. "Hakala" in the entry is also mentioned, together with the Muhyiddin Mehmed Bey Madrasa, in Hüsameddin's entry number 6-146. İbrâhim Efendi became müderris in this madrasa and then kürsü şeyhi at the Sultan Bayezid Mosque. This pulpit duty is the sheikh's office of preaching and giving lessons on Fridays in the great mosques; it is also called "cuma vâizliği" (Friday preachership) or "kürsü şeyhliği".

The 1099 Incident and His Family

İbrâhim Efendi's removal from office in 1099 in the "Emîrler incident" is the same event as the one in 6-135; the nature of the event is not explained in the sources. It is written that after he decided to go to the Hejaz, on his return he settled in Ziyâre and continued preaching. In Hüsameddin's pages this family is followed as the "Hacı İmâmoğulları", who held the imamate of the mosque until 1209 [1794-95]. The present-day name of Ziyâre could not be found in the sources.
