In Modern English

He was from Amasya. He was the second son of the mütesellim (deputy governor) Kara Abdî Bey. His elder brother was Mehmed Pasha. He became menzilcibaşı (head of the post stations) in Amasya; in 1113 [1701-02] he was deputy mütevelli of the Bâyezîd Paşa waqf, and several times city kethüda, and he died in 1119 [1707-08]. He was among the notables of Amasya. He had the Kara Kadı Mosque (mescit) on Menzilci Street repaired, built a fountain in front of it, and endowed two of his shops to them. His son Hasan Efendi and his grandson Ak Bıyık İbrâhim Efendi were among the scholars.

Another is Zanalı İbrâhim Ağa bin Ca'fer bin Mahmûd. While a holder of a zeamet (large military fief), he became alaybeyi of Amasya in 1118 [1706-07]. But because a liability of 576 akçe from the cebelü money was found against him, he was removed from office after two months; his effort to collect the money weighed on his heart and he died in early 1120 [1708]. He was the uncle of Zanalı es-Seyyid el-Hâc Ahmed Efendi and of the former grand vizier Zanalızâde es-Seyyid el-Hâc Ahmed Pasha, known as Hubyarlı.

The Alaybeyi and the Zeamet

The alaybeyi was the highest commander of the timar-holding sipahis in a sanjak; each sanjak had one alaybeyi, who was usually a zeamet holder. When a campaign began, it was his job to gather the sipahis and bring them to the sanjak governor. Zanalı İbrâhim Ağa's alaybeyiship lasted only two months; the reason for this short term was the deficit of 576 akçe found in the accounts. From the text it is understood that even this small sum is cited as the reason for his removal and his subsequent death from grief.

Zana and the Zanalızâdes

Zana is a village in the northeast of Amasya; the family that arose from among its notables was called the Zanalızâdes. In Hüsameddin's book Zanalı Ahmed Efendi appears as the grandson of Mahmûd Ağa, son of Kara Ca'fer; Hubyarlı Zanalızâde Ahmed Pasha is mentioned in this entry as "the former grand vizier".

Kara Abdî Bey and the Menzil Service

No record apart from Hüsameddin was found about İbrâhim Çelebi's father Kara Abdî Bey and his elder brother Mehmed Pasha. No record was found of the present condition of the Kara Kadı Mosque and the fountain on Menzilci Street.
