The Madrasas Mentioned

Of the madrasas mentioned in the entry, the Halfet (Hilfet) Gazi Madrasa is dated to the early thirteenth century, to 1209-10. The Hızır Pasha Madrasa was built by Hızır Pasha as part of a complex consisting of a mosque, imaret, bath, school and fountain; in some studies this complex is dated to 1466. The terms of service and salaries of the müderrises of the Yörgüç Pasha Madrasa are specified in its waqf deed. The three madrasas Hüsameddin mentions show the Amasya madrasa system through which İbrâhim Efendi rose step by step.

The Exile to Famagusta

Hüsameddin writes that İbrâhim Efendi was sent with his father to Magosa (the Cypriot city of Famagusta) in 1070 but does not give the reason for the exile. No explanation of this exile was found in other sources; nothing can be said about the grounds. About Hızır Efendi, Hüsameddin writes that he was a renowned commentator and served as mufti of Amasya; İbrâhim Efendi's name "Hızır Efendizâde" is tied to this father.
