He was the son of Bahçıvan Ali from the Hızır Pasha Quarter of Amasya. He is known as Bahçıvanzâde. He completed his studies under the famous man of merit Kadızâde Mehmed İlmî Efendi and became a public-lecture teacher at the Sultan Bayezid Mosque.

After granting licences to his students he became professor in turn at the Atabeg, Torumtay and Halfet Gâzi madrasas, then professor of the Hızır Pasha Madrasa for life, and afterwards pulpit sheikh of the Hızır Pasha Mosque, where he taught and sat, and where, while continuing to transmit Qur'anic exegesis and hadith, he died at the end of the year 1069 [1659]. The Madrasas and His Teacher

Four of the madrasas Hüsameddin lists are well-known buildings of Amasya. The Atabeg Madrasa was built in 1322. The Torumtay Madrasa is known as Gökmedrese and is dated 1267; the tomb opposite is the tomb built in 1278 by Seyfeddin Torumtay, governor of Amasya. The waqf deed of the Halfet Gâzi (Hilfet Gazi) Madrasa is dated 1225. The Hızır Pasha Madrasa is part of the complex built in 1466; the complex also included a mosque, imaret, bath, school and şadırvan.

His teacher Kadızâde Mehmed İlmî Efendi is a well-known scholar, also referred to in Amasya as "Kadızâde Küçük Hoca"; the sources report that other students too completed their studies with him and became professors. The "Kadızâde Küçük Mehmed" whom Hüsameddin mentions in entry 123 may be the same person; this is a conjecture.

The Name in the Title

The title of the entry reads "Meydânlı," but the text gives the name Bahçıvanzâde and does not speak of Meydân. The source of the epithet Meydânlı cannot be understood from the text. No information about İbrâhim Efendi himself was found in any other source.
