Hoca Ahmed Pasha and His Family

The lineage in the entry goes back to Hoca Ahmed Pasha of Amasya. Hoca Ahmed Pasha is also called İğnecizâde Hoca Ahmed Pasha and was a beylerbeyi who came from Amasya; according to Hüsameddin's records, in 1038, together with other notables of Amasya, he was summoned to Istanbul because of disturbances that had arisen and imprisoned in Yedikule; in 1039, through the efforts of the grand vizier Hüsrev Pasha, he was released and became beylerbeyi of Batum, and in 1042 beylerbeyi of Trabzon. In 1068 he is mentioned as mutasarrıf of Amasya. It is also noted that he came from the circle of the Halvetî order. İbrâhim Bey is a grandson of this famous pasha: his father Dede Ali Bey is the pasha's son.

Baş Ayan

"Baş-a'yân" means the head of the notables of a city. İbrâhim Bey's holding this position in Amasya for a time shows the family's local standing. The last sentence of the text refers to the earlier entry on İbrâhim Ağa (Mataracı Paşa); there are two separate İbrâhims who must be told apart. No record apart from Hüsameddin was found about Dede Ali Bey and İbrâhim Bey.
