The Family of Memi Dede

This entry is the continuation of the Memi Dede family told in entry 110. Şeyh Hamdullah Efendi is a son of Memi Dede and must be the brother of Memi Dedezâde İbrâhim Efendi, sheikh of the Hızır Pasha Lodge; his son Zâhid İbrâhim Efendi bears the same name as his uncle. Hüsameddin's saying "the biography of Zâhid İbrâhim Efendi comes below" shows that a separate entry is given to him further on in the book.

In studies on the Halvetî lodges in Amasya, Memi Dede and his family are mentioned together with the Hızır Pasha Lodge; however, no detail was found about Şeyh Hamdullah, Zâhid İbrâhim and İsmâil Âbid Efendi. The calligrapher Şeyh Hamdullah (d. 1520), who bears the same name, was born in the Eslem Hatun Quarter of Amasya and his father was the Suhrawardi sheikh Mustafa Dede; this person and Hamdullah, the son of Memi Dede, are different from each other.
