Cumâdelûlâ ortalarında Amasya alaybeyi Köprülü Mustafa Bey vefât eylediğinden yerine Amasya zu‘amâsından Kesdekzâde diğer [26] Mustafa Bey alaybeyi oldu.⁶²⁷ Fakat Mustafa Bey’in ansızın vefâtı, ba’zı şâyi‘âta yol vermişdi. Mahkemenin tahkîkâtıyla şâyi‘âtın bî esâs olduğu anlaşıldı.
Cumâdelâhirenin sekizinde Hoca Sultân Tekkesi şeyhi ve mütevellîsi Pîr Mehmed Efendi’nin uhdesinden tevliyet alınıp Kethüdâyeri Rus Hamza Ağa’ya tevcîh edildi. Bu da hayli kîl ü kâli mûcip oldu fakat Hamza Ağa’nın nüfûzu dedikoduları bastırdı.
Bunu müteâkip Sinan Paşa Vakfı Mütevellisi Müteferrika Mustafa Bey’e Hüseyinâbâd Mâlikânesi tevliyetinde esbak alaybeyi merhûm İskender Bey’in oğulları Sipâhi Mustafa ve Yûsuf beylerle kızları Fahrî ve Gevherhân hanımlar bâ fermân-ı âlî teşrîk edildi.
Recebde zu‘amâ arasına giren münâkaşâta binâen Kesdekzâde Mustafa Bey alaybeylikten azl olunup yerine Kal’a-i Bâlâ Dîzdârı Dizdârzâde Mehmed Bey Amasya alaybeyi ve kale kethüdâsı Uğurluzâde Doğan Bey de Kal’a-i Bâlâ dizdârı oldu. Moramul Karyesi tımârı Doğan Bey’e ze‘âmet mukâbilinde verildi.
Şa’bânın onuncu günü kudâttan İsa Efendi Amasya kadısı ve on beşinde Ankara Beylerbeyi Lâdikli Mustafa Paşa vezâretle Sivas vâlisi olup sadr-ı sâbık Murâd Paşa’nın kethüdâlığından beylerbeyi olan Amasyalı Ömer Paşa Hacı Hamza kasabasından Amasya’ya geldi.
Bu esnada Hızır ve Mehmed paşaların evkâfı mütevellîsi olan sipâhilerden Mehmed Paşazâde Kurd Mahmûd Bey İran Muhârebâtında tegayyüb etdiğinden [27] bilâveled öldüğü iddiasıyla tevliyet-i mezkûre Hüseyin Bey’in kerîmesi Ayşe Hanım’dan mütevellid olan Seydî Beyzâde Mustafa Bey’e tevcîh edildi.
Ramazânın evâhirinde Sadr-ı a’zam Nasûh Paşa i’dâm edilerek mesned-i sadâret-i uzmâ, Türkler’den damat şehriyârî İstanbullu Öküz Mehmed Paşa’ya verildi.
1024 senesi muharreminde Mütesellim Abdülfettah Ağa İstanbul’a gidip Gonca Beyzâde Ahmed Bey mütesellim kâ’im-makâmı oldu. Kadı İsa Efendi’nin mevkii de kuvvet buldu. Saferde muhassıl-ı emvâl Hacı Beyzâde Mehmed Bey de İstanbul’a gidip çavûşân-ı dergâh-ı âlîden Kara Mehmed Ağa Amasya muhassılı oldu.
Rebîülevvel gurresinde Seydî Beyzâdelerin şikâyetleriyle Kadı İsa Efendi azl edildiğinden kadı-i sâbık Müftüzâde Abdülvehhâb Efendi [28] yine Amasya kadısı oldu. Müteâkiben Müftü Köse Ahmed Efendi de azl edilip yerli ulemâdan Büyük Ağa Medresesi müderrisi Dursun Efendizâde Mehmed Efendi Amasya müftüsü ve Sultâniyye müderrisi oldu.
Bu esnada Sadr-ı a’zam Öküz Mehmed Paşa Revân serdârı olduğundan Amasya Mutasarrıfı Gürcü Mehmed Paşa kâ’im-makâm-ı sadr-ı âlî olup Amasya sancağı Çorum Beyi Ali Bey’e tevcîh edildi.
In Modern English
He was from Ahıska. He is famous as Hâdim Mehmed Pasha. On the twenty-first day of Rebîülâhir 1023 [1614–15], becoming governor (mutasarrıf) of Amasya, he sent Abdülfettâh Ağa of Amasya, who was a treasury ağa, as mütesellim. Abdülfettâh Ağa came to Amasya at the beginning of Cemâziyelevvel.
In the middle of Cemâziyelevvel, since the alaybeyi of Amasya, Köprülü Mustafa Bey, died, Kesdekzâde the other Mustafa Bey, one of the zeamet holders of Amasya, became alaybeyi in his place. But Mustafa Bey's sudden death had given rise to certain rumors. Through the court's investigation the rumors were found to be baseless.
On the eighth of Cemâziyelâhir the administration (tevliyet) was taken from Pîr Mehmed Efendi, sheikh and administrator of the Hoca Sultân Tekke, and given to the kethüdâyeri Rus Hamza Ağa. This too gave rise to considerable gossip, but Hamza Ağa's influence suppressed the gossip.
After this, in the administration of the Hüseyinâbâd Mâlikâne, the sons of the late former alaybeyi İskender Bey, Sipahi Mustafa and Yûsuf Beys, and his daughters Fahrî and Gevherhân Hanıms, were made partners by imperial decree with Müteferrika Mustafa Bey, administrator of the Sinan Pasha Waqf.
In the month of Receb, because of disputes that arose among the zeamet holders, Kesdekzâde Mustafa Bey was removed from the alaybeyilik; in his place Dizdarzâde Mehmed Bey, Dizdar of the Upper Castle, became alaybeyi of Amasya, and the castle kethüda Uğurluzâde Doğan Bey became dizdar of the Upper Castle. The timar of Moramul village was given to Doğan Bey in return for a zeamet.
On the tenth day of Şa'bân, İsa Efendi, one of the kadıs, became kadı of Amasya; on the fifteenth, Lâdikli Mustafa Pasha, Beylerbeyi of Ankara, became governor of Sivas with the rank of vizier. Ömer Pasha of Amasya, who had become beylerbeyi from the stewardship of the former grand vizier Murâd Pasha, also came from the town of Hacı Hamza to Amasya.
At this time, since Mehmed Paşazâde Kurd Mahmûd Bey, one of the sipahis and administrator of the waqf of Hızır and Mehmed Pashas, disappeared during the Iranian wars, on the claim that he had died childless the said administration was given to Seydî Beyzâde Mustafa Bey, born of Ayşe Hanım, daughter of Hüseyin Bey.
At the end of Ramazan, Grand Vizier Nasûh Pasha was executed and the office of the grand vizierate was given to one of the Turks, the sultan's son-in-law Öküz Mehmed Pasha of Istanbul. In the month of Şevvâl, Hüseyin Ağa of Amasya, one of the gatekeepers of the exalted court, came from Istanbul as administrator of the Sultân Bâyezîd waqfs.
At this time Kadızâde Ali Pasha of Amasya, who had been exiled because of Nasûh Pasha, was rewarded as governor of Buda, and the other man of Amasya, Ömer Pasha, as beylerbeyi of Anatolia.
Also at the beginning of Şevvâl, Ahmed Bey son of Hüsrev Bey, of the Gonca Beyzades, a sipahi registered in the fifth company, asserted that the line of the sons and daughters of Hızır Pasha had been completely extinguished and that he himself was the most suitable among the children of his freed slaves (evlâd-ı utekâ); he claimed and proved that, under the founder's condition, the administration should be given to him, and with the dismissal of Mustafa Bey he became administrator of the waqf of Hızır and Mehmed Pashas.
In the month of Muharrem 1024 [1615–16], when the mütesellim Abdülfettah Ağa went to Istanbul, Gonca Beyzâde Ahmed Bey became deputy mütesellim. The position of Kadı İsa Efendi was also strengthened. In Safer the tax collector Hacı Beyzâde Mehmed Bey also went to Istanbul and Kara Mehmed Ağa, one of the çavuşes of the exalted court, became tax collector of Amasya.
On the first day of Rebîülevvel, because Kadı İsa Efendi was dismissed through the complaints of the Seydî Beyzades, the former kadı Müftüzâde Abdülvehhâb Efendi again became kadı of Amasya. Immediately afterward Mufti Köse Ahmed Efendi too was dismissed, and Dursun Efendizâde Mehmed Efendi, one of the local scholars and professor of the Büyük Ağa Madrasa, became mufti of Amasya and professor of the Sultaniye.
At this time, since Grand Vizier Öküz Mehmed Pasha became commander (serdar) of Revan, Gürcü Mehmed Pasha, Governor of Amasya, became deputy of the grand vizier (kaymakam); the sanjak of Amasya was given to Ali Bey, Bey of Çorum.

Öküz Mehmed Pasha
Mehmed Pasha, who became grand vizier in place of Nasûh Pasha, appears in the sources under the names Damad Mehmed Pasha and Öküz Mehmed Pasha. He was the son of a master who made shoes for oxen (a blacksmith for oxen) in Karagümrük, Istanbul; the nickname "Öküz" (Ox) was given mostly by his opponents, taking it from his father's trade. He entered the palace in 1567 and became beylerbeyi of Egypt in 1607. Because of his services in Egypt he was called "the second conqueror of Egypt". It was announced that he was betrothed to the sultan's daughter Gevherhan Sultan, and he was summoned to Istanbul in 1611. After Nasûh Pasha's execution he was made grand vizier on 13 Ramazan 1023 (17 October 1614). Hüsameddin's descriptions "damat şehriyârî" (son-in-law of the sultan) and "of Istanbul" agree with this information; his giving the date of Nasûh Pasha's execution as "at the end of Ramazan", however, does not agree with the thirteenth day of the month given in the encyclopedic record.
Öküz Mehmed Pasha's Revan campaign began with his crossing to Üsküdar on 23 Rebîülevvel 1024 (23 April 1615), and the army arrived before Revan in the autumn of 1616. The siege, which lasted fifty-five days, ended without result for reasons such as lack of supplies and the death of the janissary ağa Muslu Ağa, and the pasha was dismissed in November 1616. Hüsameddin's statement in the next entry that Amasya troops were sent to the Revan War relates to this campaign.
Hâdim Mehmed Pasha and Gürcü Mehmed Pasha
In listing the governors of Amasya, Hüsameddin speaks around Rebîülâhir 1023 of two separate persons: in the previous entry the sanjak of Amasya is given as an arpalık to the dome vizier Gürcü Mehmed Pasha, while in this entry Hâdim Mehmed Pasha of Ahıska becomes governor of Amasya on 21 Rebîülâhir. At the end of the entry, however, "Gürcü Mehmed Pasha, Governor of Amasya" is mentioned as deputy of the grand vizier. In the sources it is written that Gürcü Mehmed Pasha, being from the harem, was also called by the nickname "Hadım" (eunuch) and was of Georgian origin; it is noted that upon the grand vizier Damad Mehmed Pasha's crossing to Üsküdar he took on the deputy grand vizierate for the second time on 22 April 1615. These dates and posts agree with Hüsameddin's account. For this reason it can be said that "Hâdim Mehmed Pasha" and "Gürcü Mehmed Pasha" are very probably the same person; however, Hüsameddin gives them under two separate headings and with two separate homelands (Ahıska, Georgia). Since no explicit source was found on whether they are the same person, this is an inference.
The Waqf of Hızır and Mehmed Pashas
The subject that takes up the most space in the entry is the change of hands of the administration of the Waqf of Hızır and Mehmed Pashas. This waqf is one of the old waqfs of Amasya. Hızır Pasha founded three waqfs in Amasya in 1465, had a madrasa and mosque built, and set aside posts such as müderris and muid (teaching assistant) for their expenses. Waqf records show that these waqfs continued until the Republican period. Mehmed Pasha was the son of Hızır Pasha and had the complex, completed in 1486, built. From the text one gets the impression that, under the founder's condition, the administration was given first to the founder's line and, if the line died out, to the children of his freed slaves. Gonca Beyzâde Ahmed Bey's claim rests on this condition; nothing can be said about the accuracy of this claim without examining the text of the waqf deed. In the next entry it is related that, upon Seydî Beyzâde Mustafa Bey's application to the court, the administration was taken from Ahmed Bey and given to him a second time.
