Sivas'ı güzelce müdâfa'a ederek Burak Bey'i sulhen Erzincân'a i'âde etdi. Burak Bey de Erzincân'a kanâ'at edib müstakilâne idâre-i umûr eder, ne Tebrîz hükümdârı Eşref Hân'ı ne de yeğeni Nâsıreddîn Muhammed Bey'i tanımazdı.
Kezâlik Haleb vâlîsi Beyboğarus da müttefikleriyle beraber kıyâm ve isyân edib 753 senesi recebinde Şâm üzerine yürümüş, harben Şâm'a girip i'lân-ı saltanat etmişdi.
Ahmed es-Sâkî, Beklemiş, Altınboğa Beyler'i tutup cezâlarını verdi. Beyboğarus, Elbistân'a firâr edib Karaca Bey'e ilticâ etmişdi.
Argun el-Kâmilî, Beyboga Rus'u Karaca Bey'den şiddetle taleb etdi. Karaca Bey, kendisinin afv edileceğini ümîd ederek Beyboga'yı birinci talebde bağlayıp adamlarına terfîkan Haleb'e gönderdi. Karaca Bey'in bu hareketi [46] Mısrîler'i fenâ kızdırdı.
Melik Sâlih, Karaca Bey'i bi-eyyi-hâl ahz ederek Mısır'a irsâlini Argun'a emr etmiş, ma'iyyetine bir fırka-i askeriyye ile ümerâdan Şeyhu, Tâz, Toktay Beyler'i me'mûr eylemişdi. Argun el-Kâmilî, bu beylerle beraber Haleb'den kalkıp Elbistân üzerine yürüdü. Sivas vâlîsi olan Hacı Kutlu Şâh'a da kendisine askeriyle mu'âvenet etmesini yazdı.
Hacı Kutlu Şâh, Sivas'dan kalkıp askeriyle Elbistân'a hareket etdi. Argun el-Kâmilî, asâkir-i Mısriyye ile Elbistân'ı sardı. Karaca Bey her iki tarafdan sarıldığını görünce Elbistân'dan kaçıp Kayseriyye yolunu tutdu. Muhammed Bey'e ilticâ ve dehâlet etmek istedi.
Salâheddîn Safedî, "A'yânu'l-Asr"ında Argun el-Kâmilî tercemesinde diyor ki: "Emîr Seyfeddîn Argun el-Kâmilî, ma'iyyetinde Emîr İzzeddîn Toktay ed-Devâdâr olduğu hâlde Haleb asâkiriyle İbni Dulkadir tarafına teveccüh edib Elbistân'a vardı. Şehri ve köyleri yakıp harâb etdi. İbni Dulgadir kaçıp Kayseriyye'ye girdi. Muhammed Bey bin Eretna'ya dehâlet etdi. Bunun üzerine Argun el-Kâmilî dönüp 754 senesi recebinin beşinci salı günü Haleb şehrine girdi. Pek çok sıkıntı çekdi. Ba'zı yerlerde yaya yürüdüğü oldu".
Emîr İzzeddîn Toktay tercemesinde bu vak'ayı şöyle yazıyor: "Emîr İzzeddîn Toktay, Şâm'dan dönüp Haleb'e geldi. Argun el-Kâmilî ma'iyyetinde askerle beraber bilâd-ı Rûm'a teveccüh etdi. Kayseriyye'ye vardılar. [47] Nihâyet İbni Dulkadir'ı tutdu. İbni Dulkadir, Nâsıreddîn Muhammed Bey bin Eretna'nın yanında idi. Asker, pek çok sıkıntılara ma'rûz olduğu hâlde avdet edib Emîr İzzeddîn 754 senesi recebinin beşinci günü Dımışk'a geldi. Bu haberi getirdi".
Emîr Zeyneddîn Karaca bin Dulkadir'in tercemesinde de yine bu hâdiseyi şöyle anlatıyor: "İbni Dulkadir, asâkir-i Mısriyye'den kaçıp giderken Eblestin ve kurâsını yakıp harâb etdi. Emîr Toktay, asâkiriyle ta'kîb edib Kayseriyye kurbunda bu tarafdan asâkir-i Mısriyye, o tarafdan da İbni Eretna asâkiri İbni Dulkadir'i ihâta etdi. Rûm'da Moğol ümerâsından Kutlu Şâh, Dulkadir Oğlu'nu tutup İbni Eretna'ya gönderdi.
Haleb vâlîsi Argun el-Kâmilî, Dulkadiroğlu'nu İbni Eretna'dan istedi. İbni Eretna birtakım ta'vîkât ile göndermemek istiyordu. Nihâyet Argun'un taleb ve tehdîdine dayanamadı. Dulkadiroğlu'nu bağlayıp göndermeye mecbûr oldu. İbni Dulkadir, 754 senesi şa'bânının on ikinci günü Haleb'e geldi.
Emîr Argun el-Kâmilî, Dulkadiroğlu'nun bağlarını, zencirlerini çözmeyip artırdı. Haleb kalesinde habs etdi. İbtidâ kılıncını kölesi Emîr Alâ'aeddîn Altanboga ile gönderip tutulduğunu haber verdi. Mu'ahharan Dulkadiroğlu'nu bir bölük askere terfîk ederek Mısır'a gönderdi.
Karaca Bey, kendi amelinin cezâsını gördüğü hâlde, evlâdı Eretnazâde Muhammed Bey'in yakasını bırakmadı.
Bu esnâda Amasya kâdı'l-kudâtı Mevlânâ Nûreddîn Osmân Çelebi bin Ziyârî vefât etdi. Kazasker İmâdeddîn Ömer Çelebi de Muhammed Bey'in cülûsuna muhâlif göründüğünden gözden düşmüşdü.
Vezîri Hâce Alî Şâh'a bile yüz vermezdi. Bütün umûr-ı hükûmet gençlerin elinde kalmışdı. [49]
Hâce Alî Şâh, Muhammed Bey'i hal'a azm ederek tazyîk etmeye başladı.
Müneccimbaşı Ahmed Efendi, "Câmiu'd-Düvel"in "Âl-i Eretna" faslında diyor ki: "Muhammed Bey, hadâset-i sinni belâsıyla gençleri başına topladı. Zevk ve sefâhatle dem-güzâr olarak umûr-ı hükûmete gençler karışdı. Halkı ve ümerâyı bîzâr etdi. Nihâyet vezîri Hâce Alî Şâh, Muhammed Bey'i habs edib kardaşı Ca'fer Bey'i taht-ı emârete geçirdi".
Emîr İzzeddîn Ca'fer Bey, üçüncü emîr olarak 754 senesi evâhirinde yâhud 755 senesi evâ'ilinde Kayseriyye'de pederinin yerine geçip oturdu. Muhammed Bey'i tutan beylerden kayınbirâderi Tâceddîn İbrâhim Bey de azl olunup yerine Sadreddîn Süleyman Şâh Tokat emîri oldu.⁴⁸⁸
Muhammed Bey, kendisini sevenlerin yardımlarıyla mahbesden kurtulup Konya'ya kaçmış, Karaman oğlu Emîr Şücâ'eddîn Süleyman Bey bin Halîl Bey'e dehâlet etmişdi. Karamânîler'le Eretna Hân arasında karâbet-i sıhriyye vardı. Bu münâsebetle Süleyman Bey, Muhammed Bey'i Kayseriyye emâretine cebren nasb ve i'âde etmeye kalkışdı. Birâderi Konya vâlîsi Bedreddîn Dâvud Bey'i bir kuvve-i askeriyye ile gönderdi.
Sivas ve Amasya halkı emîr-i müşârün-ileyhin idâresinden pek memnûn idi.
Bundan dolayı Konya a'yânı Hacı Kutlu Şâh'a feryâd-nâmeler, adamlar gönderip kendilerini Dâvud Bey'in mezâliminden kurtarmasını ricâ ederek kendisine her türlü mu'âvenetler arz ve Konya kalesini teslîm edeceklerini ta'ahhüd ediyorlardı.
Ancak vezîr Hâce Alî Şâh'ın ibtidâ Ca'fer Bey'i, sonra Muhammed Bey'i habsinden, nüfûz ve istibdâdından dolayı Hacı Kutlu Şâh, Hâce Alî Şâh'dan dil-gîr olmakda idi. Kezâlik Eretna Hân oğullarının hiçbirinde emârete liyâkat ve ehliyet göremiyordu. Çünkü her ikisi de ten-perver, şehvet-perest adamlardı.
Hacı Kutlu Şâh Sivas, Tokat ve Amasya mülhakâtına birden vâlî-i umûmî idi. Tedbîr ve şecâ'ati, adl ve diyâneti i'tibâriyle Eretna Hân'a hayru'l-halef olacak fezâ'il-i askeriyye ve melekiyyeyi hâ'iz bir zât idi. Ulemâyı, ilim ve irfânı pek severdi.
Müneccimbaşı el-Hâc Ahmed Efendi, "Câmiu'd-Düvel"in "Âl-i Karaman" faslında diyor ki: "Karaman emîri Süleyman Bey bin Halîl Bey, kendi tarafından birâderi Dâvud Bey'i Konya vâlîsi nasb etmişdi. Dâvud Bey, pek zâlim idi. Bunun mezâlim ve ta'addiyâtından bîzâr olan Konya a'yânı gizlice "Kürdî" yâhud "Moğolî" olan Hacı Kutlu Şâh'a haber gönderdi. [51]
Hacı Kutlu Şâh bilâd-ı Rûm'a vâlî idi. Konya a'yânı Dâvud Bey'in ta'addiyâtından bîzâr oldukları için Hacı Kutlu Şâhı da'vet ve Konya'yı kendisine teslîm edeceklerini ta'ahhüd etmişlerdi. Hacı Kutlu Şâh gelip Konya'yı zabt etdi. Dâvud Bey de birçok meşakkatlerle kaçıp Lârende'ye cân atdı".
Hulâsa Bedreddîn Dâvud Bey'le Hacı Kutlu Şâh arasında cereyân eden muhârebe, Dâvud Bey'in inhizâmıyla hitâma erdi. Dâvud Bey kaçıp Konya'ya tahassün etdi. Hacı Kutlu Şâh da ta'kîb ederek gelip Konya'yı sardı. Muhârebeden sonra Konya'ya cebren girdi.
Müneccimbaşı Ahmed Efendi diyor ki: "Hacı Kutlu Şâh, kendisiyle harbe kıyâm eden dört bin kadar Karamânlı Türkler'i ve yirmi dört Karamânlı şehzâdeleri kılıçdan geçirdi. Çünkü mülûk-i Karâmâniye'nin, şehzâdelerini ilim ve edeb tahsîli için Konya şehrine göndermek âdetleri idi. Konya şehri bir müddet Kutlu Şâh elinde kaldı".
Hacı Kutlu Şâh, bu muvaffakiyet üzerine Konya, Sivas, Tokat, Amasya vilâyetlerine vâlî-i umûmî oldu.
In Modern English
He was the eldest son of Hacı Kutlu Şâh, son of Kürt, and, being Tuli Bey's son-in-law, the brother-in-law (by marriage to sisters) of Emîr Nâsıreddîn Muhammed bin Eretna Khan. In mid-753 [1352] he was appointed to the emirate of Amasya in his father's place. His brother-in-law Tâceddîn İbrâhim Bey became emir of Tokat. Ahmed Şâh was regarded as his father's deputy in the emirate of Amasya. He was called "Bayraklı Gâzi" (Gazi of the Banner).
Hacı Kutlu Şâh was a brave and prudent man. He defended Sivas well and sent Burak Bey back to Erzincan by way of peace. Burak Bey too, content with Erzincan, conducted affairs independently, acknowledging neither Eşref Khan, ruler of Tabriz, nor his nephew Nâsıreddîn Muhammed Bey.
In the same way Beyboğarus, governor of Aleppo, rose in revolt together with his allies and in Rajab 753 [1352] marched on Damascus, entered Damascus by fighting and proclaimed his sultanate. Thereupon the Egyptian ruler Melik Sâlih, with his atabeg Emîr Seyfeddîn Argun el-Kâmilî, set out from Egypt and came against Damascus.
Argun el-Kâmilî drove Beyboğarus out of Damascus by fighting and pursued Beyboğa, who fled toward Aleppo. He came quickly to Aleppo as governor of Aleppo by Melik Sâlih. He tried to seize and punish the rebels. He seized the beys Ahmed es-Sâkî, Beklemiş and Altınboğa and gave them their punishment. Beyboğarus had fled to Elbistan and taken refuge with Karaca Bey.
Argun el-Kâmilî demanded Beyboğa Rus from Karaca Bey with severity. Karaca Bey, hoping to be pardoned, bound Beyboğa at the first request and sent him with his men to Aleppo. Karaca Bey's action angered the Egyptians greatly. For Beyboğarus, who had been known for his strength and bravery, had his head cut off at Aleppo and sent to Egypt.
Melik Sâlih had ordered Argun by all means to seize Karaca Bey and send him to Egypt, and had assigned with him a military unit and, among the emirs, Şeyhu, Tâz and Toktay Beys. Argun el-Kâmilî set out from Aleppo with these beys and marched on Elbistan. He also wrote to Hacı Kutlu Şâh, governor of Sivas, to help him with his troops.
Hacı Kutlu Şâh set out from Sivas with his troops toward Elbistan. Argun el-Kâmilî besieged Elbistan with the Egyptian soldiers. Seeing himself surrounded on both sides, Karaca Bey fled from Elbistan and took the road to Kayseri. He wished to take refuge with Muhammed Bey and ask protection from him.
Salâheddîn Safedî says in the biography of Argun el-Kâmilî in his "A'yânu'l-Asr": "Emîr Seyfeddîn Argun el-Kâmilî, with Emîr İzzeddîn Toktay ed-Devâdâr in his retinue, turned with the Aleppo troops toward the side of Ibn Dulkadir and reached Elbistan. He burned and destroyed the city and villages. Ibn Dulgadir fled and entered Kayseri. He took refuge with Muhammed Bey bin Eretna. Thereupon Argun el-Kâmilî turned back and entered the city of Aleppo on Tuesday the fifth of Rajab 754 [1353]. He suffered much hardship. In some places he went on foot."
In the biography of Emîr İzzeddîn Toktay he writes this event as follows: "Emîr İzzeddîn Toktay returned from Damascus and came to Aleppo. With the soldiers in Argun el-Kâmilî's retinue he turned toward the land of Rûm. They reached Kayseri. At last he seized Ibn Dulkadir. Ibn Dulkadir was with Nâsıreddîn Muhammed Bey bin Eretna. Although the soldiers had undergone great hardship, Emîr İzzeddîn returned and came to Damascus on the fifth day of Rajab 754. He brought this news."
In the biography of Emîr Zeyneddîn Karaca bin Dulkadir it again relates this event as follows: "While Ibn Dulkadir was fleeing from the Egyptian soldiers, he burned and destroyed Elbistan and its villages. Emîr Toktay pursued with his troops, and near Kayseri the Egyptian soldiers on one side and Ibn Eretna's soldiers on the other surrounded Ibn Dulkadir. Kutlu Şâh, one of the Mongol emirs in Rûm, seized the son of Dulkadir and sent him to Ibn Eretna.
Argun el-Kâmilî, governor of Aleppo, demanded the son of Dulkadir from Ibn Eretna. Ibn Eretna wished not to send him with some pretexts. In the end he could not withstand Argun's demand and threat. He was compelled to bind the son of Dulkadir and send him. Ibn Dulkadir came to Aleppo on the twelfth day of Sha'ban 754.
Emîr Argun el-Kâmilî did not untie the bonds and chains of the son of Dulkadir but increased them. He imprisoned him in the castle of Aleppo. First, sending his sword with his slave Emîr Alâeddîn Altanboga, he announced that he was held. Then he joined the son of Dulkadir to a company of soldiers and sent him to Egypt. Ibn Dulkadir remained in custody in Egypt for a time and was finally cut in two through the middle. His body was hung in two pieces over Bâb-ı Züveyle in Dhu'l-Qa'da 754."
It is seen that Kutlu Şâh, son of Kürt, was commander-in-chief and commander of the troops of Eretna Khan's son Nâsıreddîn Muhammed Bey. Since his father and he himself had received emirates in the Mongol state, he was called "of the Mongol emirs". The Arab historians in any case also show Eretna among the Mongol emirs. Here the expression "Rûm" means Sivas. From old, the province of Rûm meant the province of Sivas.
Rus Beyboğa, in his ambition to become sultan in Egypt, not only cost himself and his companions their heads but also opened an incurable wound of revenge between Eretna and the Dulkadiroğulları. He caused these two dynasties to fight each other for years. Karaca Bey, though he suffered the punishment for what he had done, his children did not let go of Eretnazâde Muhammed Bey.
At this time Mevlânâ Nûreddîn Osmân Çelebi bin Ziyârî, chief judge of Amasya, died. The kazasker İmâdeddîn Ömer Çelebi had also fallen out of favor because he appeared opposed to Muhammed Bey's accession. For this reason İmâdeddîn Ömer Çelebi withdrew from the kazaskership of his own will. As chief judge of Amasya he returned once more to his homeland. In his place Mevlânâ Bedreddîn Mahmûd Çelebi became kazasker.
Eretna Khan's son Nâsıreddîn Muhammed Bey was young and inexperienced. In the assembly where his father had gathered scholars and experienced emirs, he gathered youths like himself, and with them eating, drinking, amusement and debauchery, he neither listened to the people's complaints nor attended to affairs of state. He did not even give face to his vizier Hâce Alî Şâh. All affairs of state remained in the hands of the youths.
Muhammed Bey's state on one hand turned the emirs cold toward him, and on the other weighed heavily on the people. Hâce Alî Şâh, resolving to depose Muhammed Bey, began to put pressure on him. For since he was the cause of these things in the eyes of the people, his position and vizierate had begun to shake.
Müneccimbaşı Ahmed Efendi says in the "Eretna Oğulları" section of "Câmiu'd-Düvel": "Muhammed Bey, with the plague of his youthful age, gathered youths around him. Spending time in amusement and debauchery, youths became mixed up in affairs of state. He wearied the people and the emirs. In the end his vizier Hâce Alî Şâh imprisoned Muhammed Bey and set his brother Ca'fer Bey on the throne of the emirate."
Emîr İzzeddîn Ca'fer Bey, as third emir, sat in his father's place in Kayseri at the end of 754 [1353-54] or the beginning of 755 [1354]. His brother-in-law Tâceddîn İbrâhim Bey, one of the beys who held to Muhammed Bey, was also removed, and in his place Sadreddîn Süleyman Şâh became emir of Tokat.
Muhammed Bey, freed from prison with the help of those who loved him, had fled to Konya and taken refuge with Emîr Şücâeddîn Süleyman Bey bin Halîl Bey, son of Karaman. There was a bond of kinship by marriage between the Karamanids and Eretna Khan. For this reason Süleyman Bey tried to appoint Muhammed Bey by force to the emirate of Kayseri and bring him back. He sent his brother Bedreddîn Dâvud Bey, governor of Konya, with a military force.
Bedreddîn Dâvud Bey was a very cruel and dissolute man. With his cruelty and dissoluteness he had wearied the notables and people of Konya. Yet Hacı Kutlu Şâh, son of Kürt and governor of Sivas, commander of the military force sent against Dâvud Bey, was known as a just, devout, manly man. The people of Sivas and Amasya were very pleased with the said emir's rule.
For this reason the notables of Konya sent Hacı Kutlu Şâh letters of outcry and men, asking him to free them from Dâvud Bey's cruelties, offering him every kind of help and promising to hand over the Konya castle.
But because of the vizier Hâce Alî Şâh's imprisoning first Ca'fer Bey and then Muhammed Bey, and his influence and despotism, Hacı Kutlu Şâh felt hurt in his heart toward Hâce Alî Şâh. In the same way he saw in neither of Eretna Khan's sons worthiness and competence for the emirate. For both were men fond of the body and given to lust.
Hacı Kutlu Şâh was at once governor-general of the places attached to Sivas, Tokat and Amasya. He was a man with the military and sovereign virtues that would make him the best successor to Eretna Khan, in prudence and bravery, justice and piety. He loved scholars, learning and culture very much.
Müneccimbaşı el-Hâc Ahmed Efendi says in the "Karaman Oğulları" section of "Câmiu'd-Düvel": "Süleyman Bey bin Halîl Bey, emir of Karaman, had appointed his brother Dâvud Bey on his own part as governor of Konya. Dâvud Bey was very cruel. The notables of Konya, wearied of his cruelty and injustices, secretly sent word to Hacı Kutlu Şâh, who was 'Kürdî' or 'Moğolî'.
Hacı Kutlu Şâh was governor of the land of Rûm. Since the notables of Konya were wearied of Dâvud Bey's injustices, they summoned Hacı Kutlu Şâh and promised to hand Konya over to him. Hacı Kutlu Şâh came and seized Konya. Dâvud Bey fled with great difficulty and hurried to Lârende."
In short, the war between Bedreddîn Dâvud Bey and Hacı Kutlu Şâh ended with Dâvud Bey's defeat. Dâvud Bey fled and took refuge in Konya. Hacı Kutlu Şâh pursued him, came and besieged Konya. After the battle he entered Konya by force.
Müneccimbaşı Ahmed Efendi says: "Hacı Kutlu Şâh put to the sword some four thousand Karamanid Turks and twenty-four Karamanid princes who had set about fighting him. For it was the custom of the Karamanid rulers to send their princes to the city of Konya to learn learning and manners. The city of Konya remained for a time in Kutlu Şâh's hand."
With this success Hacı Kutlu Şâh became governor-general of the provinces of Konya, Sivas, Tokat and Amasya. His influence and fame took hold everywhere. For this reason he found the means both to draw the people of Konya more to himself and bring them closer, and to force the emirs who had turned away from the Eretna Oğulları to submit to him, in seating Sultân Altunbaş on the throne.
Thereupon Hacı Kutlu Şâh ordered his son Emîr Şihâbeddîn Ahmed Şâh, governor of Amasya, to have Sultân Altunbaş seated on the Seljuk throne in Amasya. Ahmed Şâh had Altunbaş brought from the Simre Farm where he lived and seated him on the throne.

The End of Karaca Bey
The fate in 1353 of Zeyneddin Karaca Bey, bey of Dulkadir, is also told in other sources and largely coincides with the Arab-sourced account Hüsameddin relays. According to them, Beyboğa Rus, naib of Aleppo, Ahmed es-Sâkî, naib of Hama, and Beklemiş, naib of Tripoli, rose in 1352 against the Mamluk sultan es-Sâlih, and Karaca Bey joined this movement. The Mamluk governors and rival Turkmen beys united and plundered Elbistan and its villages, and Karaca fled to Düldül Mountain. Karaca, who took refuge in the palace of the Eretnid ruler Mehmed in 1353, was put in chains and sent to Aleppo at the Mamluks' request. Karaca was killed by torture in Cairo on 11 December 1353, and his body remained hanging three days at Bâb-ı Züveyle. Hüsameddin's date "Dhu'l-Qa'da 754" falls at this time.
There is a difference in detail: according to the Safedî record Hüsameddin relays, it is Kutlu Şâh, one of the Mongol emirs, who seized Karaca and sent him to Eretna's son. Another source writes only that Karaca took refuge in the palace of Eretna's son and was chained and sent, and does not mention Kutlu Şâh. According to the same source Karaca first fled to Düldül Mountain; Hüsameddin, however, relates directly the road to Kayseri. According to the same source a large sum was paid to Eretna's son in return for this handing over. It is also recorded that some of the late Ottoman writers write that Karaca Bey died around 1378-79, close to a hundred years old. Hüsameddin does not share this view and takes the Arab sources as the basis.
The Struggle Among Eretna's Heirs
According to the encyclopedia entry, Şeyh Hasan, the eldest of Eretna's three sons, had died young in 1347. After the father's death Cafer and Mehmed Beys entered a power struggle against each other. The emirs declared Mehmed Bey ruler with the title Gıyâseddin. Mehmed Bey, who lost his influence because of his young age and lack of resolve, in 1354 under the pressure of the emirs and scholars left the throne and took refuge with the Karamanoğulları. In his place Cafer Bey was declared sultan with the title İzzeddin. Mehmed Bey defeated his brother in the Battle of Yalnızgöz in April 1355 and took the throne again. Hüsameddin's account agrees with this order, that is, first Mehmed's accession, then his imprisonment and flight to Konya, then Cafer's taking the throne. The date Hüsameddin gives for Cafer's accession (end of 754 or beginning of 755) also corresponds to 1354 in the encyclopedia. Hüsameddin shows the vizier Hâce Ali Şâh behind the change. The encyclopedia entry, however, puts forward the pressure of the emirs and scholars and writes that Mehmed Bey later entered into struggle with Hoca Ali Şah and removed him too in 1358.
The details of Mehmed Bey's youth and fondness for amusement Hüsameddin relays from Müneccimbaşı. The encyclopedia entry speaks on this only of his young age and inadequacy.
Hacı Kutlu Şâh's Konya Campaign
Kutlu Şâh's defeating Dâvud Bey, governor of Konya for the Karamanoğulları, and seizing Konya is an account that Hüsameddin bases only on Müneccimbaşı. The encyclopedia entry on the Eretnaoğulları does not mention this event. The entry states that it was Eretna who seized Konya in 1350. Some contemporary writings also base Hacı Kutlu Şâh's taking of Konya on the work of Şikârî, who wrote the history of the Karamanoğulları; we did not read this book directly, so the detail in question could not be verified. The numbers in the entry, "four thousand Karamanids and twenty-four princes", also come only from the Müneccimbaşı record.
Sultan Altunbaş
Sultân Altunbaş, named at the end of the entry, is regarded, as far as can be understood from Hüsameddin's phrase "Seljuk throne" and a record in a contemporary writing, as the son of the Seljuk Sultan Mesud II; according to the previous entry Kutlu Şâh's father Kürt Bey is his son-in-law. In the sources we read we found no separate record of Altunbaş's being seated on the throne in Amasya.
The Name Rûm
Hüsameddin states explicitly that the place the Arab historians call "Rûm" corresponds to Sivas. The encyclopedia entry too mentions the document Eretna received from the Mamluk sultan as "deputy of the lands of Rûm (memâlik-i Rûm nâibi)".
